Luke Patton '03 Excels as Writer & Director

Luke Patton ’03 co-wrote and directed the short film Theme Song Rebel, which won Best Short Film at the 2014 London International Festival of Science Fiction and Fantastic Film. The write-up for the award praised Luke, saying the film was, “Well written, well made and uplifting, this is a fantastic film. . . . we hope Patton gets his first feature going soon – he has great vision and we love his short film.”

Theme Song Rebel is Luke’s graduate thesis film for his MFA at University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts. The film takes place in a dystopia where a person’s social class is determined by their theme song, and the main character Louise wants to change her tune. Patton says, “the first film class I ever took was at Brimmer and May with Mr. Rose in 2002.” It’s amazing how far he has come. While in London, Luke met up with fellow Brimmer and May alums Carolina Beltzér ’03 and Chelsea Jacob ’06, both of whom live there.

It will be playing in Massachusetts on Thursday, July 31, 2014, at 7:00 p.m., at the 23rd Annual Woods Hole Film Festival in Cape Cod. Click here for more information.
