Olympic Gold Medal Rower Visited Campus

Middle and Upper School students were treated to a special presentation by Mads Reinholdt Rasmussen, a Danish rower and double world champion and Olympic Gold medal winner in the Lightweight Double Sculls. Rasmussen and his partner placed fourth in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, third in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, and first in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. He is now in medical school—and also continues training.

He gave the students advice during his presentation on persevering and working hard. He said, “Nothing comes easy. Are you ready to make an effort? It is mostly about hard work—and a bit of talent. We are held back by our weaknesses, it’s our strengths that move us forward.” He advised students to “... take responsibility for [their] own learning” and to “keep the focus only on things you can change,” saying, “We can decide for ourselves to get the best out of the situation.”

A highlight of the presentation was when he passed his gold medal around the audience, and every student had the opportunity to touch it!
