Will Arndt & Christine DeNizio

Will and Christine's grant was used to fund the summer workshop at Mass Art on “Handmade Books.” In addition it funded the purchase of supplies needed for a capstone interdisciplinary project for 7th grade English and Art. Students will create hardcover notebooks in October and then spend the rest of the year filling their pages.

Many studies have concluded that readers absorb more information when reading a physical rather than a digital text. The endeavor of this project is to go beyond merely retaining information more effectively to fully appreciating how information is retained. Books are artifacts. They preserve not only the story within its covers, but also the stories of all of its readers. Inscriptions and notes can offer insights into lives across generations.
