Raku Firing in Sculpture Class

The Upper School Sculpture class recently had the amazing opportunity to participate in Raku firing! The first step in this process is to warm up the kiln and check its temperature repeatedly until the glaze has reached a glassy point. Then they moved very hot ceramic ware to metal trash cans where their pieces went through the reduction process. They cooled their work in water and scrubbed away soot to see the final result (which was awesome as seen in the pictures). In addition to the pieces made in Sculpture, they also fired pendants that 6th Graders made for Greek Fest!
