Walter Kitundu Visits Campus


Thanks to the coordination of Director of Innovation and Design and MS/US Art Teacher Kathryn Lee, we welcomed Walter Kitundu to campus to work with students in the Middle and Upper School classes. Ms. Lee shared “Walter is a Tanzanian-American multidisciplinary artist and educator. He creates sculpture, sound installations, and large scale public art works that address place, history, nature, and community. He also builds extraordinary musical instruments and mechanical devices when he isn’t obsessively documenting the natural world as a bird photographer. Walter also received a 2008 MacArther Fellowship. “ 
 
Seventh grade students in Mrs. Pan’s Science class were able to use Brimmer’s own Stream tables, along with the help of a hydrophone to hear, analyze, and modify the sounds of water. Using sand and Legos to create barriers, the students directed and deflected water to produce various tones and audio effects. Upper School students in AP Environmental Science and STEAM Lab met with Walter to learn more about his work and the intersection between art and science.
