GATORS HIT THREE-POINT SHOT AT THE BUZZER

The Fourths girls celebrated on Thursday after a three-point shot at the buzzer ended the game in a 19-19 tie against Tenacre. Down by three points with six seconds left to play, Sarah Mansour ’19 found Sophia Gomez ’19 who was waiting for her final shot. Sophia sank her shot at the buzzer, followed by a roar from the Brimmer and May home crowd. It was an exciting finish to a hard-fought game, and especially fun since the girls previously tied Tenacre 19-19. The Gators started off slowly and were down 12-2 at halftime. Down by eleven points at one point in the second half the Gators slowly cut the deficit through offensive rebounding and determined shooting. The entire team contributed to the game. The combination of forwards Megan Hakimian ’19 and Jocelyn Zhou ’19 was especially strong. Point guards Rebecca Calhoun ’19 and Sophia Gomez dribbled through tough defense to find the forwards. Guards Sarah Mansour, Donna Colombo ’19, Emma Hastings ’19, Cara Rittner ’19, Olivia Klein ’18, Emily Onderdonk ’18, and Sarah Niemann ’18 all went after loose balls and played aggressively. Cara Rittner scored one free throw. Jocelyn Zhou added four points, and Megan Hakimian led the scoring with nine points. The Gators play the final game of the season on Friday at Meadowbrook at 3:00 p.m.
