  • In Pursuit of Community

Two of my colleagues and I had the pleasure of attending a virtual workshop called: Pre-Election Clinic: Workshopping Responses to Challenging Scenarios. As the title suggests, the workshop focused on how to guide our students through an election season at a time when political views are dividing communities and creating hostility.
  • Recognizing & Celebrating Pride Month in LS

At Brimmer, we are proud to recognize historically marginalized communities all year round, but particularly in their national months of celebration.
  • Affinity Spaces for Students

As I enter my tenth year at Brimmer, I have been reflecting on all the progress we have made as a school with regard to inclusion and belonging.
  • DEIB Resources

I am excited to share the DEIB work that our faculty and staff have engaged in this summer. We decided to go in a bit of a different direction; rather than choosing a book, we expanded the choices to include books, podcasts, television shows, and documentaries.
  • Barbara Henry Courage in Teaching Award

While we will always celebrate Ruby Bridges, we also hold a very special place in our hearts at Brimmer for her former teacher, Barbara Henry, who worked in our Lower School as an assistant in the 1980s.
  • Equity at our Core

The best thing we can do for our students is to provide an environment in which they feel safe, heard, protected, and celebrated for who they are and for what they bring with them to Brimmer every day and to teach them to do the same for others as they navigate the world. This is why we now have Equity at our Core.
  • Jessica Christian recently participated in a demonstration for justice with her family in Dedham Square.

    Turning Injustice to Action

The last thing I want to leave with our wonderful families, faculty, and staff right now is sad news and a negative message. Despite the news, my hope is that this letter will instill in you a sense of hope and motivation to take action.
  • Why Affinity?

To best serve our students, and to fulfill our School mission to “develop lifelong learners who are informed, engaged, and ethical citizens and leaders in our diverse world,” we must always provide them with a variety of spaces in which they can process, share, listen, and grow.
  • The Hard Work of Consideration

Let us not shy away from the work of thinking more and doing more. As educators, it is our duty. As members of the larger society, it should be too.
  • Helping Students Find Their Voices

To what extent do we allow students to exercise freedom of speech and opinion within the walls of our institutions? It seems we are answering that question every day as new challenges arise.
    • Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Belonging Jessica Christian
