Hailed by the Boston Phoenix as “a formidable flutist,” Boston-based flutist Ilona Kudina is a versatile musician, equally at home in the classical and improvisational music spheres. Before moving to Boston, MA in 2001, Ilona was an orchestra artist (flute, piccolo) in the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra. Ilona has participated in numerous projects spanning various genres, including classical solo recitals in the US, Canada, Mexico, and Europe, performances at jazz festivals, at an international jazz celebration at the UN, at the Latvian Embassy in Washington, DC, and at Boston Symphony Hall, as well as many recording sessions and concerts as a freelance artist. Ilona has served as a panelist for the National Endowment for the Arts.

Ilona has more than twenty-five years of experience in teaching: "I believe that a successful music student is a musician who learns to be his or her own teacher. The classroom can give a student a solid grounding in basic music skills and instill discipline and an appreciation for the finer points of playing an instrument. I believe that music performance is one of the most amazing phenomena one can experience. Each student is unique and so must be the approach to each student’s needs, in a kind and encouraging learning environment."
