Upper School Arts

Visual Arts

Students work in a range of media and have the opportunity to pursue advanced work. They may choose from electives in drawing and painting, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, and photography. Guest artists often visit and lead master classes in specific techniques. Brimmer students win prestigious awards for their visual art work each year.

Music

The music program offers a balance of performing ensembles and academic classes. Greenline (Upper School chorus), performs regularly and sings a wide range of styles including classical, jazz, Broadway, Gospel, and popular music. Outside performances include an annual Independent School Gospelfest and choral festivals. A variety of instrumental ensembles perform regularly and include jazz, classical, blues, and rock groups. Popular electives use current music technology and include Making Music and Electronic Music.

Drama

A fall play, a winter musical, and student-directed plays in the spring are the heart of the Upper School program. These productions feature a large number of students and active participation in all aspects of the theater, from operating the light and sound boards to assisting with costumes. Upper School students may choose from such electives as Acting for the Stage, Improvisation, and Screenwriting.

Digital Cinema

With a technologically current suite of cameras, computers, lights, and sound recording systems, our fully equipped Digital Media Center expands the learning process for students in all of our Digital Cinema courses. Our faculty offers a pedagogically sound film production curriculum that gives our students the opportunity to learn best practices in pre-production, production, and post-production of their original creative works. Our state-of-the-art equipment and green screen provide students with the tools they need to leverage storytelling techniques and create works with high production values.
