Switzerland

Scenic Views and Alpine Adventures

Picture yourself sitting on a train looking out at the Swiss Alps eating some of the most delicious chocolate in the world. Or perhaps you envision yourself on the Matterhorn Express, a 45-minute cable car ride over glaciers and crevasses taking in the stunning views. Or walking down a pedestrian-only area in a medieval town. Switzerland is a country of stunning vistas and picturesque towns and cities. It has 4 official languages and is the home of many international agencies including the United Nations.

This trip is planned to take advantage of all that Switzerland has to offer. We will spend time enjoying the spectacular Alps. We will take the cable car from the Matterhorn Express station and from there we will experience a stunning 45-minute ride to an observation area. The next morning, we will take a scenic ride on the Gornergrat Railway, the second highest altitude railway in Europe. Outside of Zurich, we will take the regional train up to Uetliberg Mountain. There we will take in the sweeping panoramic views and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate. We will also spend time taking in the culture and beauty of Switzerland’s cities and towns.

We will start in French-speaking Geneva, where we will immerse ourselves in the French language and visit the UN, travel to Zermatt, the home base for our Matterhorn and Alp adventures, spend time in Zurich enjoying a fondu dinner, and take a day trip to Lucerne to see the medieval buildings. In each of these towns we will visit important historical sites and spend time in pedestrian shopping areas. Most importantly, Switzerland is home to some of the best chocolate in the world and we will visit the Lindt chocolate factory. Once in Switzerland, our main mode of transportation will be the country's efficient train system.
